Weekend recap, let’s go bowling, tasing your own genitals and a kangaroo fight: The update for Dec. 5

The Aggies will return to Houston for the Texas Bowl.

Programming note: The Blitz will broadcast live from Saltgrass Steakhouse in Pearland today from 4-6:30. Texans safety Quentin Demps joins the show from 5:30-6:30.

The stench of the Texans season going down the drain is still strong, but there was a lot of other news this weekend. The Astros made a big signing in bringing back Carlos Beltran, and the college football playoff field was set.

The only real debate was whether or not Penn State belonged in over Ohio State. I don’t think you could have gone wrong either way, though I believe Ohio State is the better team. Penn State will have to settle for a Rose Bowl bid, which is not a bad consolation.

Also, the full bowl field was set. Houston takes a trip to Vegas to take on a very good San Diego State team, Baylor gets Boise in the Cactus Bowl, A&M returns to the Texas Bowl to face Kansas State, TCU squares off with Georgia in the Liberty Bowl and LSU meets Louisville in the Citrus Bowl.

Considering how the season started, it is not a particularly compelling lineup for the Texas teams. The state did not produce a top 25 team in the final college football playoff rankings. It started with a lot of promise — UH beating Oklahoma, A&M rising to No. 4 in the rankings, and Texas opening the season with a win over Notre Dame. All of that seems like a long time ago. Next season, Texas should be better under Tom Herman, the Aggies will regroup and Houston will be a factor again if it gets the right coach. But the 2016 season will not be one any of the state’s schools will be celebrating.

NFL recap: It was an interesting day yesterday, with the most compelling game probably being the Chiefs beating the Falcons. And don’t look now, but the Tampa Bay Bucs are sitting at 7-5. The Texans are now tied atop the AFC South with idle Tennessee, and Indy can make it a threesome with a win over the Jets tonight. For a fun look at all the games, check out our friends at

Something fishy: Somehow Jeff Fisher got a two-year contract extension with the Rams. He also does little things like lose his challenge flag. Nicely done, Rams.

Don’t try this at home: So maybe this party got a little out of hand. A woman tased her own genitals. Can’t make this stuff up.

Kangaroo court? We have all heard of punching the clown, but slugging it out with a kangaroo?

  1. I thought I read “tasting your own genitals”, I’m not sure which is worse.

Keep up the good work Fred. I made HS&S part of my morning routine.
