The Texans enter the off-season in the same boat they did last year — looking for stability at the quarterback position. John McClain broke down the possibilities, and they are the same ones we have discussed before. It is going to be speculated on endlessly until they make a move. Tony Romo if he gets cut? Jimmy Garoppolo if he gets traded? The price would be steep for Garoppolo, but the Texans should be in win-now mode. Those are the only two names that even move the needle. Romo would be a pretty good 1-2 year stopgap, but he would have to sign for a much smaller deal and his health is going to be a serious concern.
The AFC South is not a joke anymore. The Titans improved and should take another step forward. Jacksonville has talent and a competent coaching staff now. The Colts at some point will put enough talent around Andrew Luck. If the Texans can’t make a significant upgrade, they will likely take a step back and waste another year of a dominant defense.
At least they seem to know this. Can they fix it? We will find out soon enough.
Re-armed? By all standards, the Astros look poised to make a serious run this season. The one thing that appears to be missing is another top line starting pitcher. Could that guy be in the minors? Baseball America has Francis Martes as the No. 15 ranked prospect in all of baseball. He is second among pitchers.
This team seemingly has almost everything: strong, versatile lineup, deep bullpen, perhaps an ace in Dallas Keuchel if he can bounce back. The starting pitching is going to be a question mark though, and maybe at some point Martes is an answer.
Congrats in order: To our good buddy and longtime producer Jong Lee, who finally proposed to his girlfriend Theresa this weekend. I’m sure this will come up on the show today. Very happy for both of them. Jong is one of the best human beings I’ve ever had the good fortune to work with, and Theresa is a fun, intelligent, nice person. They will make a terrific couple. Congrats to both.
Gifts that keep on giving: There is no shortage of Valentine’s Day gifts out there. Well, if you are looking for something for a weirdo, here is a list. Some of this stuff is truly bizarre.
Apparently they are still Walking: I have been out on The Walking Dead for a few years now. But many of you still enjoy it. So here is a pretty good review (contains spoilers).
Well, at least they were honest: It is my hope in life that my obituary will be funny, poignant and I will at least leave the world with some positive impressions. This guy apparently failed on all those fronts.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
The daughter did not pray for the father above, but if she did, you could imagine it was something like this:
“Ezekiel 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”
