For the last few weeks, I sat back and I observed the main stories. Locally, Texans are doing little to anything in free agency therefore most local shows are slaves to National Media stories.
Former 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick protested during the season by taking a knee during the National Anthem. He became a free agent and ended his protest, left his team and is unemployed. Free agency has been active for nearly three weeks. Kaepernick has not been acquired by another team which means an opportunity for a juicy racial conspiracy.
I want to believe fans are not stupid enough to fall for this fabricated argument but then again, fans are dumb. As I listen to the black balled argument, you would think Kaepernick was a Cam Newton or Ben Roethlisberger caliber player. He is not! Kaepernick is not awful but he is not some coveted talent who should be immediately signed. We are still in the infancy of this free agency and I believe it’s premature to be uttering black balled.
I can think of multiple free agents more valuable than Kaepernick who are unsigned:
- Adrian Peterson
- Jamal Charles
- Darrelle Revis
- Jay Cutler
- Robert Griffin III
- Case Keenum
Just to name a few; are those players black balled as well?
I am from Texas and I have seen black balled in the NFL by way of Vince Young and Johnny Manziel. The national media have shot their load early and the local media is catching up. I do not know if Kaepernick is black balled but I do know it’s too early to be discussing it three weeks into free agency for an average player at best. I am not in the habit of feeling sorry for a guy who turned down $14 Million.
Another national media story the local media story is hugging, LaVar Ball. I have gone out of my way to avoid this story because it’s lame, but it’s unavoidable. I will not pretend to be a sports savant, but I do not know this guy. I never heard of him. He’s a nobody to me but he’s all over print, radio and twitter.
One of the things I hear from most, “he’s doing this for his son”. Story after story, take after take, I notice the discussion is about LaVar and not Lonzo Ball (his son) who happens to be in the NCAA Tournament.
I do not care how another man earns but do not BS me. LaVar Ball is raising his own status, not his son Lonzo. I think it’s silly at best to romanticize LaVar’s foolishness. The dude is talking about himself vs. various greats of the game.
I do not understand how either topic is grabbing this much attention but I do find the Kaepernick story interesting. I have many thoughts about Kaepernick’s situation but at the end of the day, it’s similar tp Michael Sam. It’s not apples to apples their causes or lifestyles eclipsed their actual play on the field and most people believe they should be playing.
Hoops, there it is: Four more teams have advanced in the NCAA Tournament, including Gonzaga.
Gotta love it: If you want the definition of “white girl wasted,” check out Holly XO’s latest update. If you do not laugh your ass off, read the caption.
Wear it well: There is nothing more idiotic in the current social climate than America expending resources to retrieve an NFL player’s game jersey. What’s more idiotic, Houston Police Department conducting a press conference for the retrieval of the jersey.
